Frida Kahlo by Patrick Rubinstein at the Gormleys Gallery in Dublin from 21 March to 8 April 2024

19 March 2024

"An Ode to the Masters" will showcase an exquisite assortment of Rubinstein's latest creations, honoring both contemporary and traditional Masters such as Warhol, Frida Kahlo, Matisse, Michelangelo, Vermeer, and Klimt.

Although the French artist was raised surrounded by the works of these masters as a child growing up in Paris in 1960, his work is primarily influenced by the Optical and Kinetic artists Yaacov Agam, Bridget Riley, and Victor Vasarely. “I am fascinated by how these artists combined geometric lines and shapes with colour to create the illusion of movement and play. I am captivated by how they play with the limits of the human eye's perception.”

Rubinstein produces dynamic, three-dimensional pieces that shift as the viewer moves by layering and fusing images. Depending on whether one is looking at the painting from the right or left, it changes. These two side perspectives are combined to form the frontal perspective.

Rubinstein's work has received recognition on a global scale, and it is part of numerous prestigious collections and exhibitions at top galleries across the globe.

The exhibition will be on display from March 21 to April 8.There will be a drinks reception hosted by Hennessy on Thursday, March 21 from 6 to 8 p.m., marking the official opening.
