Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli referenced the magical, colorful world of Frida Kahlo for Valentino resort. They made it a point not to take the inspiration too literally, instead working to capture Kahlo’s audacious spirit. “Individuality remains a central point in our stylistic path,” Chiuri said, with Piccioli adding, “We are fascinated by the figure of the female artist, a character able to live following her own schemes and rules, not subjected to any kind of protocol.”
Their eclectic collection ranged from romantic frocks — including a white tulle maxidress embroidered with colorful flowers, trees and insects — to utilitarian outerwear, such as an olive parka softened by painted and embroidered butterflies.
