From November 22nd to 29th, 2023, Kuala Lumpur will host a fashion and culinary event as Dior takes over Sentul Pavilion for the return of the Dior Café.
Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri pays tribute to the beauty of Mexican history with her collection, drawing inspiration from the works of renowned Mexico City native Frida Khalo. She does this by interpreting sartorial art as a crucial aspect of self-expression and self-representation.
Throughout Cruise 2024, butterflies and moths will be a recurring theme. The brand's newest print, Butterfly Around the World, is based on archival sketches by Andrée Brossin de Méré and is scattered throughout pants and the hourglass-shaped Bar Jackets, which are tailored in velvet to reference Khalo's preference for menswear during her lifetime. This is contrasted with distinctly more feminine ensembles that included jewelry and accessories adorned with the delicately winged creatures, as well as the huipil tunic, which is customarily worn over full skirts in Tehuana fashion.
Sentul Depot will undoubtedly be fully equipped to serve as a fitting extension of Dior's Cruise 2024 showcase, even though it can't match the magnificent Antiguo Colegio de San Ildefonso, where the show was firstly held this year. Of course, the pop-up will allow guests to see, feel, and try on many of the collection's essential accessory pieces, such as purses, shoes, and sunglasses.
