"Frida Kahlo - The meaning of Life" inaugurated on the 15th July in Sanremo, Italy

17 July 2023

17/07/2023 Located at the Palafiori Museum in Sanremo and curated by Vincenzo Sanfo, the exhibition begins by introducing the viewer to the historical and political context in which Frida was born.

The rooms of the Palafiori house a reconstruction of the bed and the small studio in which Frida, bedridden and alone after a serious bus accident, developed a love for art, at the urging of her parents, to tear her away from the emptiness in which she lived for several years.

The exhibition, in parallel, is also an exhibition of the shots of numerous famous photographers in Mexico City, those by the well-known Colombian photographer Leo Matiz, a close friend of Frida's, as well as those of other famous 'gazes' of her time, including: Nickolas Muray, Carl Van Vechten, the photographers Lucienne Bloch, Imogen Cunningham and Lola Álvarez Bravo.

The Frida Desnuda section collects photographs of the artist in the nude, taken by Julien Levy, an art curator and lover of the painter, whom he met at an exhibition in New York.
