13 April 2023
This year the celebrations will expand to various locations & events throughout the month of April, starting with the "Viva Frida!Art Exhibit" at MECA TBH Campus.
The contemporary artists from all across Texas who have been impacted by Frida's artwork are featured in this exhibition, aiming at deepening viewers' awareness of Frida Kahlo's art, life, and cultural significance as well motivating them to keep discovering and appreciating her work. Inaugurated on Saturday, April 8, the exhibit will be on view through April 30.
On April 19 the evening "Frida en Primavera"will be based on Frida's well-known aesthetic, which was distinguished by its use of vibrant hues, complicated patterns, and floral motifs. Models will be styled by local designers, who will then present their versions on the runway. This will happen at Houston's Downtown neighborhood's stunning Bayou Place Ballroom.
The 18th annual "Frida Festival" will be held on April 29 at MECA in the landmark Dow School building to close out the month. Along with local singers and entertainers, there will be an artists market featuring a variety of retailers, artisans, and one-of-a-kind items. We'll also hold our well-known Frida look-alike competition for people of all ages.
