The new National Museum museum will be the largest in the Nordic countries, with 13,000 square meters of exhibition space and 6,500 permanent artworks on display, including Edvard Munch's "The Scream." It will be comparable to the Guggenheim in Bilbao, Spain, and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
In 2024, the museum will host exhibitions of works by American abstract painter Mark Rothko and Mexican surrealist painter Frida Kahlo.
