October 20, 2001 - Frida's paintings shown at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Rome The just closed exhibition "Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and the works of Mexican Art Masters", hold in Venice up to 8th October, moved to Rome National Gallery of Modern Art. It is interesting to note that the Rome version of the exhibition, titled "Frida Kahlo e le vie maestre dell'arte moderna messicana" will show additional paintings by the Mexican artists. August 20, 2001 - Sotheby's is offering a rare print by Frida on November 1-3, 2001 Sotheby's New York is to offer the Reba and Dave Williams Collection of Mexican Prints which chronicles the history of Mexican printmaking in the first half of the 20th century. This offering features the work of Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, Rufino Tamayo, Jos* Clemente Orozco and David Alfaro Siqueiros, in addition to examples of the socially charged work coming out of the Taller de Grafica Popular (founded in Mexico in 1937). With estimates ranging from $300 to $80,000, the Williams Collection will be included in Sotheby's sale of Old Masters, Modern and Contemporary Prints on November 1, 2 and 3. Featured in the sale is perhaps the most sought-after graphic image by a female artist, the exceedingly rare Frida and the Miscarriage by Frida Kahlo from 1932, which is estimated to bring $60,000/$80,000. |

August 11, 2001 - New US stamp honors Frida![]() Guerra said Kahlo is the first Hispanic woman to be featured on a U.S. postage stamp. Guerra, Meza and El Paso East-Central city Rep. Larry Medina ceremoniously postmarked a number of the stamps, which were given to the more than 100 guests of the consulate. The 34-cent stamps are now on sale at the Main Post Office, 8401 Boeing. |

June 27, 2001 - Exhibition in Venice, Italy Starting from the 8th of June 2001 it is finally possible to see in Italy a significant quantity (15!) of Frida's paintings thanks to the exhibition titled "Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera and the works of Mexican Art Masters", taking place in Venice at the Fondazione Bevilacqua La Masa up to the 8th of October 2001. The curators of this important show are Louis Martin Lozano and Achille Bonito Oliva. A total quantity of about 50 paintings are shown and among Frida's works I would like to mention "The two Fridas" - 1939 (restored for this occasion by the exhibition editor "Centro Italiano per le Arti e la Cultura"), Selfportrait dedicated to Lev Trotzkij" -1937, "Henry Ford Hospital" -1932; "Unos cuantos piquetitos" - 1935. |

April 30, 2001 - MADONNA LENDS KAHLO PORTRAIT TO UK SURREALIST SHOW On April 25, 2001 Madonna has agreed to loan one of Frida's painting to London's Tate Modern gallery for an exhibition later this year. Madonna is loaning ``Self-Portrait With Monkey'' that was part of IBM's corporate art collection until the company sold it in 1995. It will be among about 450 works in the Tate's "Surrealism: Desire Unbound'' show from Sept. 20 to Dec. 16. The exhibition will then go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City from Jan. 28 to May 6. The show will include works by Salvador Dali, Man Ray, Max Ernst and Alberto Giacometti. |
