Nickolas Muray, an aspiring photographer, took a vacation to Mexico in May 1931 and met Frida Kahlo, a woman he would never forget.
They began a ten-year on-again, off-again relationship, as well as a friendship that lasted until her death in 1954. The exhibition consists of about forty photographic photographs of Kahlo taken by Muray. Muray's unique perspective as Kahlo's friend, lover, and confidant is explored in these images, which date from 1937 to 1946. Muray's images reveal Kahlo's intense interest in her Mexican ancestry, her life, and the people she formed a close friendship with.
The exhibition is made possible through support from the Choptank Foundation, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware and The Bryn Mawr Trust Company of Delaware.
