This theatrical reading with live music has been conceived after years of study in Mexico in partnership with Casa Azul and the Anahuacalli Museum. Written and performed by the extraordinary Andrea Ortis, "Frida, mi amor" is a journey through the life, works and soul of Frida Kahlo.
An evocative, direct and compelling narrative, it draws on the actor’s communicative power to convey, with intense authenticity, Frida’s perspective on beauty, pain, love and art.
The show weaves together words and sound to draw the audience into the intimate and powerful world of one of the 20th century’s most iconic figures. Alongside the poetic and personal dimension, the journey covers the historical and political scenario of her time: the Mexican Revolution, the artistic and intellectual ferment, Surrealism, and the great figures who stood by her side – Diego Rivera, Leon Trotsky, Tina Modotti, André Breton. It is this Mexico that pulses through every word: the Mexico of the ancient gods and the Aztec lineage, of vibrant colours, of living earth, of the passion and vitality that nourished Frida’s imagination and her blood. A stark and powerful theatrical fresco, combining biography, music and history to tell the story of a woman who turned her own body and her art into a revolutionary act.
Joining Andrea Ortis are Andrea Salvadè (keyboards, accordion, cajón), Lucia Sacerdoni (cello), Gioele Mazza (guitars) and Samuel Perinotto (trumpet).
