"Botanic Garden Is an Art Museum — Plants Loved by Frida" in Seoul, Korea Through Aug. 17

21 July 2026

The grounds of Seoul Botanic Park are being transformed into an immersive celebration of Frida's life, works of art, and enduring relationship with the natural world.

Now in its second year, the annual summer event expands expands on last year's exhibition dedicated to Claude Monet by focusing on Kahlo's paintings and the symbolic role that nature and plants played in her life and artistic career.
Inspired by Mexican flower markets, Kahlo's famous home, and vibrant village festivals, the exhibition spans from the Sunken Garden on the first floor of the Plant Culture Center to the conservatory.
Alongside botanical installations intended to mirror the imagery and symbolism found in Kahlo's paintings, large-scale replicas of her works are on display.
Previously evoking Monet's water lilies, the Sunken Garden has been redesigned with vibrant floral arrangements inspired by traditional Mexican festivals, creating areas for leisure and photography.

A variety of cultural activities are also offered at the event, such as classical concerts with a focus on healing via music and plants, talks by exhibition guides about Kahlo's life and work, documentaries about the artist, and viewings of the French movie "The Rose Maker."

Through August 17, the city-run garden invites guests to explore exhibitions, performances, and interactive programs inspired by one of Mexico's most renowned painters.
