"Frida Kahlo - Il ritratto spezzato" by Compagnia delle Seggiole returns to Florence, Italy
08 June 2026
One of the most acclaimed productions of recent seasons by the company led by Fabio Baronti returns to Villa Bardini in Florence . An intense and captivating theatrical journey into the life of the Mexican artist, exploring her passions, suffering, music and art., written by Fiammetta Perugi and directed by Sabrina Tinalli.
"Il ritratto spezzato" - "The broken portrait" is a theatrical journey into the soul of Frida Kahlo, where her paintings come to life and become memory, body and emotion. On stage, Frida herself tells her story: a childhood marked by illness, physical pain, loneliness and rebirth through art. Each scene springs from a painting: self-portraits that come to life, symbols that become theatrical action, images that transform into voice and resistance. A performance where painting, words, music and song intertwine in an intense and visionary narrative. The audience thus enters Frida’s world, suspended between reality and dream, irony and despair, traversing a human and emotional journey capable of conveying the full strength of an artist who transformed pain into beauty.
This intimate and powerful account also reveals her overwhelming and tormented relationship with Diego Rivera: absolute love, an open wound, a mirror and a fire. Frida does not tell her story to be understood, but to be seen: whole, alive, unyielding. A performance that is at once a confession, a ritual and a battle.
Starring Fabio Baronti, Anna Collazzo, Chiara Macinai and Silvia Vettori, accompanied by live music from the group “El Mariachi el Magnifico de Florencia”, with Beatriz Oyarzabal (vocals and vihuela) and Guido Menestrina (vocals, guitar and guitarron).
Directed by Silvia Avigo and Fiammetta Perugi, with set design by Adriana Lopez, Paola Santin and Massimo Pampaloni.
