Casa Kahlo is the Frida's house that opened last September to visitors for the first time in nearly 100 years.
More than just a second home, Casa Kahlo allowed Frida to be herself away from the home she shared with her husband, artist Diego Rivera. She spent time with her closest confidantes (her sisters), friends, and lovers at Casa Kahlo, which was surrounded by her creative family and the vibrant Indigenous culture she immersed herself in. In addition, Kahlo used the house as a second studio where she instructed a group of devoted students who called themselves Los Fridos.
Frida's family has lived in Casa Kahlo since they purchased it in 1930 and the book "Casa Kahlo" introduces the world to Casa Roja by showcasing hundreds of Kahlo's personal belongings along with a few unpublished letters. Along with later drawings, there are pieces of art such as the painting she showed Rivera when she was eighteen. Along with mementos like her collection of taxidermied butterflies and clothing she made, there are also personal documents that provide Kahlo's fervent admirers with new material.
The book, which was written by the artist's closest relatives, offers a very new and intimate look at her life, enhanced by their special bond with her legacy.
