The musical "Frida Kahlo, Amor y Revolución" at Teatro Reims in Florence, Italy

16 March 2026

The Ayré Theater Company will present the musical “Frida Kahlo, Amor y Revolución,” written and directed by Matilde Sanquerin, at the Teatro Reims in Florence (Via Reims, 30). Featuring the two Fridas: Lucia Agostino and Claudia Campolmi & I Puerto Sureño: Guitar and vocals by Niccolò Laconi; Accordion, guitarlele, and vocals by Chiara di Gangi; Trumpet by Nicoletta Mecca; Percussion by John Russo.

Frida the painter, Frida the poet, Frida the communist, Frida the lover. So many labels for a single, exceptional artist who defies categorization.
“Amor y revoluciòn” is an original play based on Frida’s writings: through letters, poems, diary entries, and songs, the show traces the turbulent, painful, and passionate life of the Mexican artist.
On stage, two Fridas—different yet complementary souls—are accompanied live by the instruments of Puerto Sureño and their music from the South of the Worlds. An original script based on the writings of Frida Kahlo that, through letters, poems, diary entries, and songs, retraces the turbulent, painful, and passionate life of the Mexican artist.
Frida was perfectly and proudly aware of her own complexity, so much so that she often used the theme of the double to speak of herself, of the distinction between her two souls, opposing yet complementary. This duality finds its deepest expression in the painting “The Two Fridas,” the inspiration behind the writing and staging of “Amor y Revolución”: on stage, two actresses, two souls, two Fridas, and with them, the Music, to convey what words cannot.
Four musicians, Puerto Sureño, underscore and heighten the show’s most intense moments.

Friday, March 20, and Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 9:00 p.m.
