Frida's face in the exhibition "RI-nascita.Trame di donne" - Castel San Pietro Terme (BO) - Italy

05 March 2026

From March 7, the eve of International Women's Day, until Republic Day on June 2, the municipal administration of Castel San Pietro Terme (Bologna, Italy) and SCART, the Hera Group's artistic project that creates works of art from recycled materials, are exhibiting female faces symbolizing rebirth and resistance.
The exhibition “Re-birth. Women's Stories,” explores the value of transformation through the language of contemporary art and offers a profound reflection on the recovery of materials as a possibility for rewriting identity, memory, and the role of human beings in society.

The project focuses on 15 female figures from different eras and fields, united by their ability to transform fragility into strength and leave a lasting mark on cultural and social history. Women who have been able to reinvent themselves, redefine themselves, and enlighten the world with their vision, becoming universal symbols of autonomy, resilience, and change.
The faces of Liliana Segre and Margherita Hack, Frida Kahlo and Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Amy Winehouse and Aretha Franklin, Federica Pellegrini and Paola Egonu, Federica Brignone and Sofia Goggia, Carla Fracci and Lady D, Mina and Raffaella Carrà, and finally Queen Elizabeth will be on display.
Sealing the symbolic value of the exhibition, which will remain open until Republic Day, is the portrait of President Sergio Mattarella.

The artworks were created by SCART's permanent workshop, a project by the Hera Group born out of a collaboration with the Academies of Fine Arts in Florence, Bologna, and Ravenna, with the aim of demonstrating how waste can become an expressive material, thus giving profound meaning to the theme of the circular economy. The artists used materials such as bag accessories, leather scraps, metal scraps, beads, fabrics, ties, ribbons, zippers, plastic that contained chocolates, electrical cables, rings, garment bags, watch straps, and synthetic flowers.
The exhibition invites the public to reflect on the profound meaning of recovery, dignity, and the possibility of rebirth, demonstrating how what is considered useless or marginal can come back to life, acquiring a new and powerful symbolic value.

Municipal Exhibition Hall at Via Matteotti 79 in Castel San Pietro Terme, Bologna.
Opening on Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m. and will remain open until June 2.
The exhibition can be visited on Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; on Tuesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
