Theater play "Frida, a bomb wrapped in a silk ribbon" in Verona, Italy on Feb. 20, 21 and 22

18 February 2026

"Frida, a bomb wrapped in a silk ribbon" tells the story of Frida through her emotions and the narrative adaptation of some of her most significant works.

"Our show aims to portray Frida Kahlo as an artist, a woman and a revolutionary,’ says Andrea Castelletti, who is also the theatre's artistic director. "To do this, we have chosen nine paintings that clearly express her thoughts and experiences. We observed them in order to translate them into theatre. Some we reconstructed on stage, others we rendered through acting, and for others we followed the creative process that led to their creation. Prints of the nine paintings are on display in the entrance hall, allowing the audience to understand the ideas and dramaturgical logos behind the theatrical writing."

Each scene, and therefore each theatrical scene, is interwoven with music by Antonio Canteri and Claudio Manzini, who accompany Laura Murari dressed as perfect mariachis and wearing make-up as if it were the so-called “dia de los muertos”, the day of the dead. They perform traditional Mexican songs in a more generalist style. At the centre of the stage, at the heart of each work, is the actress, Laura Murari.
