The authors want to step away from the popular culture representation of the painter and present a lesser-known Frida, using texts coming from the book "Frida. The Life and Work of Frida Kahlo" by H. Herrera.
They say: "The script is constructed almost entirely from the painter's own writings, allowing us not only to see Frida but also to hear her voice, full of poetry, color, and passion. Frida's writings are still virtually unknown, yet they are as extraordinary as her paintings. Our performance draws on the painter's extensive correspondence and the diary she kept during the last, incredibly turbulent ten years of her life."
The performance draws from the iconic Mexican painter's strength, vibrant self-portraits revealing pain and suffering, and her tumultuous relationship with Diego Rivera, where she sought profound love amid passion and heartbreak. "Frida la Vida!" honors Frida's unyielding spirit and creative legacy.
