Tec de Monterrey, Mexico, presented "Frida Kahlo" a dance performance paying tribute to Frida's life

29 October 2025

Dance and emotion: the Tec de Monterrey dance company payed tribute to Frida in an intense show on Oct 27. As part of the Santa Lucía International Festival, colour, movement and passion came together in a show that pays tribute to one of the most iconic women in Mexican art: Frida Kahlo.

Through contemporary dance, the Tecnológico de Monterrey's The Co. company brought the artist's life, pain and strength to the stage in a performance that moved the audience with its visual and emotional intensity.

The production begins with a scene charged with symbolic power: the accident that changed her destiny. Amidst lights, shadows and broken movements, the dancers represent the moment that marked her body and soul. With each step, we perceive the physical and emotional reconstruction process that Frida underwent after months of being bedridden, finding healing through art.

The story continues with Frida's encounter with Diego Rivera, the great love, and also the great pain, of her life. Between intense steps and emotionally charged glances, the choreography captures the passionate and stormy relationship that inspired many of her works.

The show culminates with one of the artist's most iconic phrases:

‘Feet, why do I need them, when I have wings to fly?’

A tribute to the woman who turned pain into creation. A symbol of resistance and freedom, just like Frida Kahlo herself.

A perfect ending to a work that celebrates the woman who turned pain into art and suffering into creation.
