"Frida Kahlo and the Colours of Life" is the fourth chapter in the Art Heroes comic book series published by 24 Ore Culture.
After the first three volumes of the series, which focused on figures from art history such as Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh and Caravaggio, the young “art heroes” travel back in time once again, to the early 1940s. Their goal is to defend the works of an extraordinary artist such as Frida Kahlo from the mysterious phenomenon of “greying” that is affecting them.
In the new volume of the series, the five protagonists are recruited once again by Vittorio, their school janitor and head of a secret society dedicated to preserving the works of famous artists. Travelling back in time, Alvise, Zoe, Brunilde, Sara and Iñigo arrive in Mexico City in 1941 on a crucial mission: to recover an emblematic object of Frida Kahlo's art, challenging the evil plans of Rosagrigia, a brotherhood that wants to eliminate art from the world.
Once they meet the famous painter, the children are immediately confronted with her strong and independent personality. Through dialogue and colourful illustrations – drawn by D'Addazio in the unmistakable style of Kahlo's paintings – the work accompanies readers into the world of the Mexican artist, exploring with the protagonists her strong connection to her roots and the genesis of her iconic self-portraits.
The authors of the comics are the screenwriter Jacopo Silvestre and the illustrator Laura D'Addazio.
