The premiere of "Frida" play by Jessica Ferro will be at the Golden Theatre in Rome, Italy on 16 Oct

09 September 2025

Conceived and performed with love and dedication, this show is an emotional journey exploring the inner world and vibrant art of Frida Kahlo.

"Ever since I was a child, Frida Kahlo has held a special place in my heart. Her indomitable spirit and ability to rise from adversity have been an inexhaustible source of inspiration. This show is my tribute to the woman who, despite physical and personal difficulties, was able to transform pain into beauty through her art. I had the extraordinary opportunity to meet the granddaughter of a dear friend of Frida's, an encounter that enriched and authenticated my creative journey. This special connection is also mentioned in the poster.
Your support is essential for the success of this dream come true. I invite you to join me in a unique theatrical experience that celebrates not only Frida's life, but also art's incredible ability to unite and inspire. I am a theatre actress who works with love and passion, elements that are indispensable to my existence. Bringing “Frida” to the stage is more than just a show: it is a journey into the hearts of those who, like me, believe in the transformative power of culture." Jessica Ferro

Various events make up the story:

  • Frida's intense love for Diego.
  • Her disappointment in her beloved sister, Cristina, her trusted friend and confidante, who in reality is much more treacherous and devious.
  • Her desire to be a mother, denied by the cruelty of nature.
  • The encounter with Angelina, Diego's first wife, who, like her double, looms over the scene: she too is a broken woman, torn apart by tormented love and a son who died prematurely.
  • The legacy left by the friendship between Lucienne Bloch and Frida. Lucienne's photographs continue to tell Frida's story, preserving the memory of an extraordinary artist and the special bond that united them.
  • Her relationship with Nickolas Muray, a highly talented Hungarian photographer, that went beyond simple friendship, and is reflected in the images Muray took, revealing an intimacy and deep understanding of the artist.

A story of fragile, raw, divided, unpredictable lives and existences that meet and shape each other. Existences more complex than a simple, confining definition. There is no black and white. There is grey. Nuance. Because reality is never a single colour.
“FRIDA” aims to be the unpublished painting of a painter, the most intimate fold of an unpublished story that clashes with the bright colours of her paintings.

Written and directed by Jessica Ferro.
