“AMORE e RIVOLUZIONE. Frida : il colore del dolore” ("LOVE and REVOLUTION. Frida: the colour of pain") will be on stage on 18 July at the Roman Theatre in Falerone (FM), Italy
In January 1937, Lev Trotsky, the father of the Russian Revolution, fleeing Stalin's assassins, arrived in Mexico, where he had been granted political asylum, along with his wife Natalia. Waiting for him at the dock was the wife of Diego Rivera, the painter and communist who had fought to secure that safe-conduct and who would host Trotsky in his home for nearly two years.
Diego Rivera's wife was Frida Kahlo.
Thus began a story of love and eroticism that would continue until 1939, when Frida left first for New York and then for Paris, on her way to becoming the global icon of painting we know today.
But during those two years, there was talk of sex, of subterfuge (both couples lived under the same roof, and the relationship between Frida and Lev became increasingly evident), of revolution, of art.
It is Lev himself who tells us about Frida.
A monologue, written by Paolo Logli and interpreted by actor/dubber Luca Violini, in which Prose and Poetry dance together with Giovanni Seneca's Guitar and Anissa Gouizi's Singing and Percussion, which will brush, emphasise and enhance a series of suggestions and moods, the most poignant, passionate or joyful moments.
Music and Songs inspired by different Cultures under the banner of Love and Revolution, themes dear to Frida Kahlo. Music played a great role in her life: the traditional music of Mexico, first and foremost, with mariachi and couple dances, with village festivals and moonlight songs. But also American jazz, which she loved very much, and the French and European songs she listened to on her few trips abroad. It was not pure entertainment: music, for Frida, was passion, it was the vibration of the soul that was in tune with her land and the colours of her painting.
