Atlanta Ballet’s 2025-2026 season will include "Frida", choreographed by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa

15 July 2025

The Atlanta Ballet has released a press statement detailing its upcoming 2025-2026 season at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

Gennadi Nedvigin, Artistic Director of Atlanta Ballet, announced that the company’s 2025-2026 season—his 10th year leading the company—will include Frida, a vivid and expressive homage to Frida Kahlo. The piece, choreographed by the acclaimed Annabelle Lopez Ochoa, will make its East Coast debut as part of the season’s lineup, which also features well-known works and a cherished family-friendly performance at the Cobb Energy Centre.

“Every season, we craft a diverse program that highlights the strength and grace of our dancers and challenges them to find deeper ways to connect with our audience,” said Nedvigin. “It’s a privilege that, in my 10th season with the company, we’ll present a mixed repertoire celebrating legendary choreographers like George Balanchine and Justin Peck, alongside a contemporary masterpiece by Annabelle Lopez Ochoa in Frida. This season is set to electrify the stage with its dynamic choreography, compelling narratives, and stunning visual elements in both costume and set design.”

This evening-length ballet, scheduled for four performances from May 8 to 10, 2026, explores the life and legacy of a powerful artistic and cultural figure, drawing inspiration from the vivid and symbolic imagery found in her artwork. Emotionally rich and deeply introspective, the production captures Frida's spirit through Annabelle Lopez Ochoa’s expressive choreography, a moving score by Peter Salem performed live by the Atlanta Ballet Orchestra, and the creative direction of Nancy Meckler.
