Frida Kahlo' works exhibited in China for the first time in Shenzhen from Jul 12 to Sep 15

13 June 2025

Entitled 'Frida's Paradox,' the exhibition showcases more than 250 remarkable items, such as original oil paintings, watercolors, personal belongings, and handwritten correspondence.

Instead of concentrating only on Frida's iconic early self-portraits, the exhibition encourages viewers to delve into the more intimate and often overlooked aspects of her life and artistic journey, emphasizing the tensions and intricacies beneath her public persona.
Jointly curated by Cristina Kahlo, Frida’s great-niece, and Juan Rafael Coronel Rivera, the grandson of her husband Diego Rivera, the exhibit sheds new light on her early years, her creative influences from pre-Columbian art and Mexican folk culture, as well as the traditional indigenous garments and jewelry she embraced. It also brings attention to her later still life works and writings—many of which are being shown in China for the first time.

Venue: L1 Main Exhibition Hall, Sea World Culture and Arts Center, Shenzhen
