The exhibition tells a history of modern and contemporary British art through the lens of portraiture, showcasing more than 150 pieces that will explore kinship and identity within artistic circles.
Along with themes of competition, imitation, inspiration, and selfhood, the exhibition will examine the distinct gaze that exists between artists by fusing images of artists at work with more personal and surprising portrayals. The show will additionally inspire us to consider how an artist may be different from other portrait subjects and what we can learn about the intricate relationships among creative peers from these portraits.
