Through more than 170 pieces of art selected from the collections of the Museum of Latin American Art Buenos Aires (Malba) and its founder, Eduardo F. Costantini, "LATINOAMERICANO | Modern and Contemporary Art from the Malba and Eduardo F. Costantini Collections" offers a compelling overview of Latin America's artistic output from 1900 to the present.
The exhibition at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) was co-curated by María Amalia García, chief curator at Malba, and Issa al-Shirawi, curator and head of International Exhibitions at QM. It is divided into six thematic sections rather than chronological or geographic order. These examine the shared natural landscapes, multiple identities, urbanization, social transformations, and artistic emancipation processes that have developed throughout Latin America.
Alongside lesser-known gems and modern voices, there are iconic pieces by well-known artists like Frida Kahlo (Autorretrato con chango y loro - Self-Portrait with monkey and parrot 1942), Diego Rivera (Baile en Tehuantepec, 1928), Fernando Botero (El viudo, 1968), and Wifredo Lam (Omi Obini, 1943).
