Monday 7 April at 20.30 at the Teatro Comunale di Sassari the Italian dancer (of Sardinian origin) Eleonora Accalai is playing the leading role of Frida alongside Zoltán Csere as the great painter and muralist Diego Rivera.
"Frida" is an intriguing tale in paintings in which episodes from Frida Kahlo's troubled existence are combined with the iconography of her paintings, steeped in symbols and themes of Mexican tradition and autobiographical references, transfigured with a distinctive and unique flair into a powerful magical realism.
In a successful fusion of dance and theatre, music and the visual arts, through the use of new technologies, ‘Frida’ proposes an itinerary in ‘a dream world’ where life and art intermingle: Eva Duda emphasises the challenges that a woman and an artist with a strong temperament like Frida Kahlo was able to face and overcome, and at the same time the psychic dimension of her works, which seem to draw nourishment from the unconscious and at the same time from an ancestral memory, from the roots of a very ancient civilisation reinterpreted in a modern key. ‘What is shown is not the life of Frida Kahlo, but a theatrical vision of a sensitive and colourful world, inspired by the artist's life journey,’ reads the presentation. Frida is an artist known all over the world, and this work allows those who love her to see her art and her life in a new perspective... The show, with a contemporary point of view, immerses us in deep Mexico, in Frida's homeland, with its surprises and revelations, putting a new face on the emotions and passions that marked her life'.
‘Frida’ brings to the stage the fantastic and almost surreal visions of the Mexican painter, together with the atmospheres and colours of Central America, investigating the thoughts and memories, the sensations and emotions of an extraordinary and unforgettable artist and woman, fascinating and enigmatic.
A multimedia work with a strong impact, signed by one of the most interesting contemporary artists on the European and international scene: Eva Duda, born in 1977, originally from Szeged (Hungary), graduated from the University of Dance in Budapest and specialised in directing at the University of Marosvásárhely.
She began her career at the age of twenty-three, creating her first choreographies and trying her hand at musical theatre, then collaborating with various European institutions and companies, in Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Romania and Poland, alternating between artistic activity and university teaching, before founding the Eva Duda Dance Company.
