When Frida was just eighteen, she was involved in a severe bus accident that sent an iron railing through her uterus and belly, shattered her spinal column, and fractured her numerous times.
She frequently used topical treatments derived from the cannabis plant to alleviate the persistent and chronic pain she had for the remainder of her life, which ended at the age of 47.
This information comes directly from Kahlo's great-grandnieces, who met with Marisela Nuño for ten days last summer and gave their approval to a cannabis brand that would shortly make its debut.
Nuño is the creator and CEO of Hierba Buena, a company based in Los Angeles. Alas Pa′ Volar is her first brand, which will fully open for business in the first quarter of 2025 after a soft launch on December 16. The brand's inspiration, Kahlo, is honored with the Spanish phrases (Wings to Fly), which the artist wrote on one of her final paintings.
Regarding the great-grandchildren and their mother (Cristina's granddaughter), Nuño remembers, "I spoke to Mara, Mara, and Frida. I went to their house. It was more [to determine] if there was going to be a good match between us – my personality, my vision, their vision, how they feel about cannabis…how I would portray it.”
