Wes Gordon, the brand's creative director, chose Mexico as a source of inspiration to pay tribute to its cultural and artisanal wealth, in th 14 Nov. show that marked the fashion house's first official presentation in the country.
Diego Rivera created the historically significant Museo Anacahualli in Mexico City, which houses Pre-Columbian artifacts. Wes Gordon drew inspiration from the rich colors of Mexican sunsets and the textures of volcanic rock to create a collection that balanced glitz with cultural authenticity. Models walked through a golden hour glow as the evening progressed, showcasing silk ballgowns and separates in deep burgundy, grassy green, and Frida Kahlo blue, all of which were accentuated by deft color manipulation—for example, a champagne skirt that flashed its vibrant blue underside when in motion.
This collection's close cooperation with Mexican craftspeople, which paid homage to the nation's legacy, went beyond its aesthetic appeal. From traditional embroidery on cotton blouses to lace-like details pieced into evening gowns, Wes Gordon collaborated with regional designers to add handmade artistry to the designs. Structured jackets were given an unexpected whimsical touch by ceramic embellishments, and the vibrant floral motifs reminiscent of Mexico City's busy Mercado Jamaica were reflected in hand-painted jicara jewelry. These partnerships skillfully combined the artisanal and the modern, serving as more than just embellishments but as an essential component of the collection's narrative.
