"Well-Behaved Women", a musical by Carmel Dean, will be on stage from 28 Sept to 3 Nov in Australia
25 September 2024
In the musical feast "Well-Behaved Women", iconic women are brought to life via poignant and frequently humorous songs that honor the ways in which their actions contributed to their celebrity.
Michelle Guthrie asked Director Blazey Best to envision a theatrical musical, which was first conceived as a concert for the renowned Joe's Pub in New York. The production was put on as an example of concept in 2021 before being brought to Belvoir for a mainstage season.
"Imagine if some of the most astonishing women throughout history could hop up on stage and sing you a song. The first time I heard the songs I couldn’t believe that I hadn’t heard them before, they felt like classic" declared Blazey Best.
"They’re the women who led the way, who smashed the glass ceilings, and fought for their voices to be heard. Cleopatra to Malala Yousafzai. Frida Kahlo to Cathy Freeman. Mary Magdalene to Virginia Woolf. These women are legends. These women are united in being trailblazers. These women will make you laugh, move you, uplift you, and ignite you." says the musical presentation in their web site.
Ursula Yovich (Barbara and the Campdogs), Stefanie Caccamo (Into the Woods, Once), Zahra Newman (Dracula, Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill), and Elenoa Rokobaro (Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar & Grill, Caroline or Change) are among the outstanding original cast members.
