"Frida: Beyond the Myth" on view at the Dallas Museum of Art through November 17

25 August 2024

The exhibit looks into her life and humanity by the art produced by those who were closest to her, as well as through her own creations.

The Dallas Museum of Art organized the exhibition, which is co-curated by Sue Canterbury, the Pauline Gill Sullivan Curator of American Art, and Dr. Agustin Arteaga, the Eugene McDermott Director of the museum.

“Sue and I worked together, trying to create a narrative that will walk through from her very, very early days as a young girl, four years old, and having pictures from the most important photographers of the 20th century that depict her at very private, intimate moments and also her works and create that way to learn about her life as she was thinking and reflecting on the things that happened to her,” Arteaga said.

Sixty pieces by Kahlo and other talented artists make up the exhibition - paintings, drawings, prints, and photos - ilustrating various events that influenced both her life and her art.
