Frida in the Italian book ‘Stories of the Past, Voices of the Present’ celebrating 10 great women

17 July 2024

On 18 July the Institute of Southern Culture in Naples, Italy, will host the presentation of the book "Storie del passato, voci del presente", offering a profound reflection by female authors on how the historical stories of female figures influence the lives of women today.

Each author has in fact shown, through the story she has chosen to narrate, how she feels linked and intimately connected to the woman she has chosen to put at the centre of her writing:

  • Assunta Ferrante and Giovanna ‘the madwoman’
  • Maddalena Ferraro and Margherita Hack
  • Magda Mancuso and Raffaella Carrà
  • Gaetana Morgese and Lenuccia
  • Michela Mortella and Matilde Serao
  • Milena Setola and Frida Kahlo
  • Stefania Starace and Jane Austen
  • Antonietta Sorrentino and Elvira Donnarumma
  • Laura Varriale and Maria Theresa Bourbon Hapsburg Teschen
  • Manuela Morra and ‘every woman’

"Stories of the Past, Voices of the Present' is a work that goes beyond mere storytelling, proposing a dialogue between generations. Women who made history become guides and sources of inspiration for today's readers, showing that the road to personal fulfilment, although often arduous, can be travelled with courage and determination.

It is a hymn to the ability of women to overcome obstacles and realise their dreams, despite living in a society that often puts more emphasis on men.
