Between 1940 and 1948, Colombian photographer Leo Matiz (1917–1998) met and took pictures of Frida Kahlo in Mexico City's Coyoacán neighborhood, where she had lived since childhood.
Beyond her physical and psychological suffering, Leo Matiz's photographs depict an impulsive and passionate Frida Kahlo. They also show a time when the photographer reached full artistic maturity.
Leo Matiz presents an intimate portrait of his friend through these photos, which frequently capture moments from her everyday life while revealing a hint of her powerful personality.
