15 March 2025 | 20 July 2025

This photo exhibition offers an intimate, never-before-seen look at Frida through the shots of the naturalised Hungarian-American photographer Nickolas Muray.
The exhibition, at the Historical Museum of Infantry, presents photographs taken between 1937 and 1946, a crucial period in Frida Kahlo's life.

Here  what can be find in the exhibition:

  • Iconic Photographs: among the images on display is the famous ‘Frida Kahlo on White Bench’, which is one of the best-known portraits of the artist
  • Unique Perspective: the shots by Muray, her lover and long-time friend, offer a personal and intimate perspective on Frida, showing not only the artist but also the woman behind the works.
  • Immersive Reconstructions: the exhibition includes reproductions of the rooms of Casa Azul. Traditional Mexican clothing and jewellery belonging to the artist are also featured.
  • Letters and Documents: On display are original letters exchanged between Kahlo and Muray, revealing details about their relationship and the artist's life
  • A collection of stamps issued by various countries since 2001 celebrating his legacy.

The exhibition celebrates the bond between Frida Kahlo and Nickolas Muray, highlighting not only the painter's artistic talent but also her inner strength, pain and resilience.
